The article points out that 40 percent of all surgical complications are experienced at home and with 50 percent of that number occurring with 9 days of leaving the hospital. The most common complication is infection around the surgical incision site. 78.7% of breast surgery, 69.4% of bariatric surgery, and 50.3 of hernia repair complications occur after discharge.
