Key statistics are these: Nearly half of all women killed every year are killed by intimate partners; More than half of that number are killed with a firearm; Of those a significant percentage have obtained legal protective orders against their eventual killer. In most states, there is no requirement that those subject to protective orders relinquish their firearms.
