American Urological Association Revises Guidelines For PSA Tests

Urology Group Stops Recommending Routine PSA Test by Liz Szabo.  USA TODAY.  May 3, 2013.

(1)  (1)  The authors of the new guidelines "learned very quickly that there really was (adequate, overwhelming, some, or no) high-level evidence supporting the use of screening with PSA."

(2)  For healthy men under 55 the Urological Association (does or does not) recommend routine annual screening.

(3)  What should men ages 55-69 do in regard to screening?  Men aged 70 and over?

(4)  What should men with prostate pain and those with high risk of prostate cancer do?

(5)  How does the idea of "shared decision making" fit into the decision to undergo PSA screening?

(6)  Why do some patients continue to insist on screening?

(7)  What are some of the possible harms associated with PSA screening?
